Welcome to the BGESS Home Page
PDF Print E-mail
As new technologies become more important in shaping the future of the world, it is important that all people have a level playing field to shape this trend. Today, there is a shortage of people of African ancestry in America's graduate engineering and science programs. This diminishing pipeline is has contributed to the lack of black faculty in these areas. This lack of diversity has adversely affected America’s ability to remain effective in the technological landscape in the 21st century. It is the mission of BGESS to resolve this problem through promotion of diversity. We welcome our fellow underrepresented minorities and others to join in our campaign to change the face of American science and engineering!

As graduate students in engineering and the sciences, the members of BGESS feel we are in a unique position to bring about progress in all of these areas. We have created resources on our web page as part of this effort. We invite you to explore and use the information contained herein. While you are here, we also invite you to visit our undergraduate counterpart, BESSA.

Alumni in the News: Kevin Kornegay PDF Print E-mail

BGESS Alumnus Kevin Kornegay (M.S. '90, Ph.D. '92 EECS) was recently featured in Forefront Magazine and as part of a "cool alumni" series in the Berkeley Engineering Lab Notes. Of particular note is Dr. Kornegay's recent award of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Janice Lumpkin Educator of the Year Award. Keep up the good work!
